New shows to open soon

MARIETTA, GA (PNAN) – Opening Saturday, September 28, 2024, “The Stars of America” is a Melvin Toledo solo exhibition at the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art.

     Works include a painted portraiture, an installation and community engagement which delves into the intricate tapestry of immigrant life, capturing the diverse narratives, struggles, and triumphs of individuals who have journeyed to the United States in pursuit of hope and opportunity.

On display in Galleries 4 and 5 through December 15, 2024, each piece serves as a testament to the resilience and tenacity inherent in the immigrant experience. Through meticulous brushwork and emotive color palettes, each piece illuminates the cultural richness and shared humanity that unite us all.

     In the Main Galleries also opening Saturday, September 28, 2024, “Georgia Artists in the MCMA Permanent Collection” will be a selection of artwork that aims to acknowledge, study, and celebrate the history of artwork and artists who have been influential in the state of Georgia. Whether the artists were born, worked or died in Georgia, this exhibit showcases a series of fine artwork by artists who have had varied histories and relevance to this state.

The museum’s goal is to demonstrate the endless connections that exist within their Collection between current local artists and artwork that represents the storied history of arts and culture, which is sourced from of over 600 pieces of American art dating back to the 1700s, by presenting key works of art that commemorate artists who have functioned within the state of Georgia.
