(PNAN-TX) – The Texas Commission on the Arts (TCA) is seeking nominations for the positions of 2011 and 2012 State Poet Laureate, State Musician, State Two-dimensional Artist and State Three-dimensional Artist. The deadline is Monday, November 1, 2010. Lone Star citizens are sought to submit a nomination, including self-nominations are encouraged. Texas State Artists should be widely recognized for their contributions to the state and the advancement of their respective art forms, including they should be established artists with a statewide, national or international acclaim, as well as they should reflect Texas’ diversity and high-quality artistic offerings.
“We are fortunate to have many outstanding artists in Texas, and we anticipate receiving numerous qualified nominations,” said Gary Gibbs, executive director of TCA. “Being named a state artist is quite an honor, one that brings new career opportunities for recognition from the arts community and the general public.”
Chosen artists will join the ranks of previous, such as Willie Nelson, James Surls, Red Steagall and Kathy Vargas and receive statewide recognition. Texas State Artists also have the opportunity to participate in TCA events and promotions, including participation on TCA’s Texas Touring Roster and other state initiatives in relation to their respective arts discipline.
Artists will serve a one-year term and represent the state’s artistic legacy.
