Hoosier church calling ‘Christ’ artworks

Trinity United Methodist Church in Lafayette, Indiana is seeking local artists to interpret the Seven Last Words of Christ from the Cross and exhibit in the church during Lent, Wednesday, March 6 through April 21.

     The work will be on display and featured prominently during Trinity Fusion on Monday, April 15 at 6:00 pm. We ask that artists commit to one of the seven words and deliver the work to the church to install by Thursday, February 28.

All mediums from paintings, photography, sculpture, pottery, textiles and other 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional forms are accepted. Artists can contact Ruth Smith by February 15 with a brief bio, image(s) of work(s) to submit, and the Word/Theme that you would like to represent below:

     Word 1: “Into your hands I commend my spirit.” Theme: Trust, faithfulness, reliability; Word 2: “It is finished.” Theme: Perfection in timing, completion; Word 3: “Father, forgive them.” Theme: Forgiveness and Grace; Word 4: “Woman, behold your son.” Theme: Family, inclusive community; Word 5: “Today, you will be with me in paradise.” Theme: life/death, beauty/suffering, beginnings/endings; Word 6: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Theme: Forsakenness, barrenness, questioning; and Word 7: “I thirst.” Theme: thirst, water, emptiness.
