About

St. Charles Center, of which the Saint Charles Senior Living Community is a part, is the motherhouse of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood. This community of priests, brothers and lay associates was founded August 15, 1815 by St. Gaspar del Bufalo, in Rome. They first came to the U.S. in 1844 to minister in Ohio. In 1861, they purchased land in Mercer County to establish a seminary. The present impressive building, a local landmark, was built in 1921 and the interior has been renovated several times. Since January of 2007, it has 54 apartments with many amenities for seniors in independent living. Its Assumption Chapel includes an historic organ and a gorgeous 40 foot mosaic on the wall behind the altar.
