Plein Aire event call issued

The Auburn, Indiana Arts Commission is accepting applications for a juried plein aire painting event, “The AAC Presents Plein Aire Painting at GSP” on Saturday September 14, 2019 from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm at the Gene Stratton-Porter state historic site. The application deadline is Wednesday, July 31, 2019.

Prior to the paint out, juror Professor Jennifer Emswiler  from the University of South Carolina/ Union will present a discussion of plein aire and the impact of art in rural areas.

During the paint out, Professor Emswiler and GSP interim manager Tiffany Parker will discuss plein aire and its relevance to Gene Stratton-Porter, with a painting created by Gene only on display for public view during this event.

Throughout the site, goers can try the artform and view the creative process of 20 artists from throughout Indiana.  Artwork will be on display at the Noble County Convention and Visitors’ Bureau until the closing reception Thursday, October 3, 2019 at the historic Waterloo Train Depot in Waterloo, Indiana.  Paintings can be purchased at artist’s discretion with patrons allowed possession of pieces after the closing reception.
