Children’s author and illustrator, Steven Kellogg lit up the stage at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center in Van Wert, Ohio. The gregarious artist captured not only mine, but also from what I immensely believe, the whole audience with his lively animated approach.
His face glowed as he shared letters he received from young fans, including his complimentary words of support on the important role teachers, librarians and others who work with children.
While he told stories, Kellogg rapidly drew images that were projected on a screen, as well as his dog Pinkerton and other characters, which are based on real parts. I felt his passion and the love he had for them, and especially the laughter he gave me as he spoke about their antics.
As a creator of over 100 children’s books and to name a few, “The Three Little Pigs”, “Paul Bunyan”, “Johnny Appleseed”, and “Sally Ann Thunder Ann Whirlwind Crockett,” Steven is also the illustrator of “Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town” and “The Baby Beebee Bird.” In addition, he is a recipient of the David McCord Citation and the Regina Medal for his distinguished contribution to children’s literature.
I thoroughly recommend a Kellogg venue as a must see. It was the best return of a ticket value I spent in a very long time. As he roams the stage and with his gesturing- sketching trademark, he takes interesting, fascinating and loveable, just like his characters, to a whole new level of artistic perfection.
