The children’s book, “The National Menagerie of Art” by Thais Vanderheyden is a fun way to learn about famous artists and art. People are replaced with birds and animals in a humorous style to appeal to young audiences. I am sure the book will be enjoyed by everyone.
The titles and artist’s names are changed which adds to the humor of each painting. For example, Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa is replaced with Mona Piglet (La Gioinkonda) by Lionhardo da Stinki. The humor in each illustration will captivate young readers to excite them to turn the page to see what is next.
This book does not stop there; in fact, in the back of the book is a gallery of the original works of art with the artist’s name and description. Truly an educational addition.
I believe the book illustrates a unique way and definitely a choice I would select for young people to learn about art and artists.
