A golden personality

In review of “My Life and Other Unfinished Business by Dolly Parton, foremost I can proclaim it is the best autobiography I have ever read when I weigh the many reads that have entered my world over the last six plus decades.

Right from the beginning, Dolly drew me in with her stories about growing up in Tennessee. And if not the latter, her written style gave me the feeling Dolly was sitting next to me while on the front porch with the sunshine streaming through the trees as we sipped on freshly brewed ice tea.  Truly, I had one of those best of best times all found in a book about a person I believe who has been blessed with a golden personality.

Dolly came from a poor but loving close-knit family of 12 children; she was the fourth. God has always been her focus and asked about how she felt about life in general, she said “…sometimes it drives you crazy and sometimes it drives me on.”

Her book is filled with stories of many people along the way who she performed with such as, Loretta Lynn, Porter Wagner and Tammy Wynette and each adding more depth of kindness, love and friendship in this iconic read.
