I will never forget a lecture series in April 2013 at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center of Northwest Ohio. National Geographic nature photographer, Joel Sartore gave an inspiring talk with numerous visuals, and his twenty years experience, which has taken him all over the globe, was undoubtedly evident.
Sartore spoke with genuine enthusiasm and concern as he showed his collection of wildlife and nature photos; many animals are endangered. He explained the ongoing struggle to save plants and animals from extinction.

His book, “Rare: Portraits of America’s Endangered Species” was created in a controlled studio. Each plant and animal was photographed against a black or white background. The up close and personal approach provided much humor and frustration for Sartore and his crew when the animals wouldn’t cooperate. However, the painstaking process paid off when you experience the beauty of this achievement because RARE makes a powerful statement – a real winner.
