(NWPR-IN-OH) It was in 1993 when National Arts & Humanities Month was formed in the United States and it is officially celebrated every October. Its central purpose is to prompt Americans to widen their knowledge about the arts and humanities and what they can do for their lives, including adopting an active participation.
The four primary goals are: 1-To create a national, state and local focus on the arts and humanities through the media; 2-To encourage the active participation of individuals, as well as arts, humanities and other interested organizations nationwide; 3-To provide an opportunity for federal, state and local business, government and civic leaders to declare their support for the arts and humanities; and 4- To establish a highly visible vehicle for raising public awareness about the arts and humanities, has succeeded in becoming America’s largest annual gala that recognizes the achieving efforts of the arts and humanities.
One such entity, Arts Place with facilities in Portland, Indiana and St. Marys, Ohio has joined the hundreds of arts organizations and communities across the nation in celebration throughout the month with activities that honor the efforts of artists, historians and cultural groups. They are:
INDIANA: Portland: Margaret Lump exhibit; Arts Place Farmers’ Market, Saturdays 2:00-5:00 pm; Assassins play, October 21-24, 28-31, $7-10; Clay for Kids, Mondays 4:30-6:00 pm, ages 8-13; Ceramics for Adults, Sundays 1:30 pm, ages 14 up. Montpelier: Music Lessons, weekdays, all ages. Hartford City: Music Lessons, weekdays, all ages. OHIO: St. Marys: Aerobic Bellydance, Mondays 6:00-7:00 pm, ages 16 up; Music Lessons, weekdays, all ages; Walk with Nature exhibit, Reception October 17, 12:00-4:00 pm; Celina: (Wright State University/Lake Campus: Memoirs Writing Course, October 12, 7:00-8:30 pm.
