“I have been active as an artist since middle school. I was fortunate to have lived in Germany during seventh and eighth grade and was stunned by the works that I witnessed in Rome, Pisa, London, Bologna and Paris. This experience cemented my long term fascination and commitment to art,” said Dan Tackett.
As a photographer, Tackett captured this image of Roughlock Falls when the area was still open to hikers. The photograph was taken with a 4×5 camera using black and white film. The negative was scanned and converted into a high resolution digital file. He then worked on the image in Photoshop before sending it to the printing company. The beautiful black and white prints are 22″ x 24″ and packaged flat. This print is one of 25 signed by the artist donated to the South Dakota Rapid City Arts Council to raise funds for the Visual Arts Program. Each print sells for $40.

Over the years, Dan Tackett has explored drawing, oil painting and photography. He has had photography shows at the University of Central Oklahoma, One Santa Fe Plaza in Oklahoma City, and Prairie Edge. His photographs have been accepted at the Center for Fine Art Photography in Ft. Collins, Co, with one of those winning the Judge’s Choice award.
A graduate with a BA in Commercial Art from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1976, Tackett followed by a BS in Biology at the same school in 1979. He went on to pursue a Medical Degree at the University of Oklahoma. In 1987 he accepted a position in Radiation Oncology in Rapid City. During his time on staff at RCRH he was honored as Hospice Physician of the Year. Dan served on the Hospital Board as Vice Chief of the Medical Staff and then as Chief of the Medical Staff. During his tenure as Chief of Staff he was given a Distinguished Physician award. He began working as a Locum Tenens physician in Mitchell in 2009, and also in Yankton since 2012.
