Artist images ponder concerns

“Sibling Rivalry” ink and watercolor, Laura Corcoran.

The Artistry opens with “A Minnesota Rookery: Paintings and Drawings from Fergus Falls by Laura Corcoran” on Friday, February 22, 2019 in the Atrium Gallery at the Bloomington Center for the Arts in Bloomington, Minnesota. The show runs through April 14, 2019.

Saint Paul artist Laura Corcoran is fascinated by extraordinary yet common natural occurrences: the ability of birds to navigate using the stars, the ability of a bee to dance directions to a flower. She’s equally interested in and concerned about the disruptions human actions have on the natural process and environment.

Using printmaking as her medium, primarily linocuts, lithographs, and monoprints, Corcoran’s images are informed by both her study and observations of these natural phenomena as well as the challenges posed by her own actions and the actions of her species.
