(AAPNW-IN) – Fifty or sixty years or even a century from Monday, February 21, recipients could or their generations to follow will also have a visual reminder that marked a time when they were given recognition for their commitment to the Arts. Zach Medler has been chosen to create these original works to be awarded to the chosen for the Community Arts Leadership Awards (CALA).
“The importance of art in a community begins at home. It betters our lives and opens our minds to new ideas as individuals and as societies. My pieces represent where art begins, lives and hopefully thrives,” said artist Medler.
Beginning at 3:30 pm in the rotunda of the Indiana Statehouse, four Hoosiers will be honored for the following as the Arts Advocate, Arts Administrator, Arts Volunteer or Arts Educator. In conjunction, this day also serves as the Indiana Coalition for the Arts (INCA) Arts Day Celebration, an annual gala spotlighting the diversity as well as the importance of the arts in Indiana, which begins at 1:30 and ends at 6:00 pm.
Formed in 2006 with the merge of the Arts Alliance Indiana and Indiana Advocates for the Arts, the Indiana Coalition for the Arts, which also includes its Foundation, works to increase the capacity of artists and art organizations through education, technical assistance and information services. www.inartscoalition.org
The 2010 CALA Award recipients were: Arts Advocate: Joy Bailey, Hoosier Salon Board of Directors, Monticello; Arts Administrator: Eric Rogers, Executive Director, Arts Place, Portland; Arts Volunteer: Miriam Robeson, Attorney at Law, Flora; and Arts Educator: Judy Ward, Visual and Performing arts Cooperative, Wabash County Schools, Wabash.
