Better summertime nutrition choices

With warm weather upon us, most people can’t wait to take advantage of the longer days and great sunshine. However, nutrition can take second place to trying to fit it all in before the season is gone.

Sodas, chips and hot dogs may be a quick way to fill up your belly, but leave your system lacking in critical vitamins and minerals. Get ahead of the game by keeping these luscious smoothie recipes close by and feel your energy level surge.

   Watermelon and Lemon Juice: Watermelon help keep you hydrated as it has high water content. It is a low energy density and rich antioxidants fruit, thus clears your body from toxins. Lemon helps to decrease calorie intake, thus leading to weight loss.

Add the juice and pulp of 1 lemon and 1 cup watermelon chunks and blend in a mixer. Flavor with mint leaves.

These juices will not only help you to lose weight but also assist your body to feel relaxed. It will also provide good nutrients to your body.

Strawberry Pineapple Surprise: This drink is sweet and perfect for a mid-afternoon snack. Pineapples have a crazy amount of vitamin C plus provide great digestion for that junk food that is consumed. Strawberries offer relief from allergies for some, plus are high in Folate which aids in fighting depression.

Add one medium pear, ½ pineapple, and a cup of strawberries to a blender. Season with 15 peppermint leaves.

Keep these potions in the refrigerator and bring it out on a hot summer day. Thirst will be quenched and it will be time for another round of fun.
