TITLE: Images from Chinatown: Four Decades of Photographs by Maurice H. Edelstein
BRIEF ABOUT: As the first exhibition in a new Series, this retrospective solo exhibition will examine the lives of residents framed by everyday street backdrops; a frequently ignored subject overshadowed by Chinatown as a tourist spot itself.
Edelstein’s photography gives the spotlight to the people who live and work within Chinatown, one of the densest neighborhoods in the country. Additionally, historical photos such as the protest of the I-hotel, depicts the activist history and vibrancy of the community.
A native of San Francisco and dear friend to the Chinese community, Maurice H. Edelstein has been taking photographs for over four decades. His work has been long documented as well as has exhibited at the Chinese Culture Center in 1998 and 2004.
