Creativity to flow through the Allegany

      (AAPNW-MD) – On Saturday, October 2 from 5:00-8:00 pm, “Frostburg Arts Walk” ends its season with self-guided walking tours, featuring opening receptions and exhibitions in the Cumberland, Maryland downtown art galleries, museum displays, literary and dance performances, live music and theatre, shopping at a variety of retail destinations and dining at some of the area’s restaurants.

     The evening also includes “hands-on” children’s activities on board the Allegany Arts Council’s Arts Bus. While some of the evening performances may require the purchase of tickets, most activities are free, and many participating venues offer discounts to goers.

     Opening in the Saville Gallery on Sunday, October 10 and on view through Saturday 16th, where there will be a closing reception between 6:00-8:00 pm, the “2010 FSU Kappa Pi Art Club Exhibition” is a community show, “Identity” being juried by Alexander Heilner, Professor of Photography and Digital Imaging from the Maryland Institute College of Art.

     Artists are encouraged to deliver artwork to the FSU Fine Arts Building, Room 128 on Thursday, October 7 or Friday the 8th between 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. For more information, call the FSU Visual Arts Department at 301.687.4354.

     Next on view in the Saville Gallery, the “Stephen Manger Exhibition” from Thursday, October 21 and runs through November 19, this Frostburg artist says, “Mistakes are more interesting than intentions. If I had to describe my process of making art it would be the management of errors. I make mistakes on purpose, thousands of them. I choose the most useful mistakes, catalog them, and try to repeat them, often. I allow the process to do the work – finding new forms, applications and effects so that the resulting picture is the product of continual editing, collecting and combining. I work to amass an ever-increasing collection of techniques. I strive to remove evidence of my own hand in the art. Sometimes I allow gravity to do the work, rather than the brush. I do not make images of things. The images themselves are organic and amorphic, and are not meant to represent anything, although ultimately that decision is not left to me.”

     An Opening Reception from 5:00-8:00 pm is set for Saturday, October 23.
