Doorways to the future open

Artist rendition of Arcanum school

(NWPR-OH) – Tuesday, December 21, according to the calendar, opened the winter season, but it is also when Joe Scholler unlocked the doors for the students to the new k-12 building for the Arcanum-Butler school district. “This is a big move. We have lots of volunteers, but the furniture is coming in slowly. We’ve been moving in for the last three weeks,” said Superintendent Scholler.

Constructed on a 53 acre site purchased in 2002, the new school is located on Sierra Lane, also a new Arcanum street that runs parallel to Main Street. The cost of the entire project for both state and local was nearly $30 million. An official Open House and dedication ceremony is set for Sunday, January 30, from 2:00-4:00 pm.

Besides Arcanum-Butler, there are seven other public school districts, all together serving more than 10,000 students, as well as the Darke County Educational Service Center that also serves the region, including parochial schools and a Montessori school.

The village of Arcanum is located southeast of Greenville on route 49, or also about 35 miles northwest of Dayton and 15 miles to the Indiana state border, it is noted for excellent family living in the Buckeye’s farm belt.
