Remember when you would sneak that cup of coffee because your mom said that it was bad for you? “It’ll stunk your growth,” was the most popular catch phrase. Then after years of 6 cups a day the doctor informs you that you have to give up the coffee in order to protect your heart. Tell me, how many death certificates list the major cause of death as coffee?

While it is true that coffee contains caffeine, a stimulant, new studies reveal that there is no correlation between coffee and heart disease. In fact, some of the myths that coffee is bad for your health is just plain wrong.

Nonetheless, what is a factor in heart disease is the lifestyle that sometimes accompanies those that consume coffee. Drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes, consuming excess sugar and lack of exercise were the main culprits that was never separated in studies in the past.

A 7% improvement in the risk for Type 2 Diabetes was recently noted when a group of coffee drinkers was compared to non-coffee drinkers. The same also applied to tea drinkers. Further, liver disease, Parkinson’s disease, dementia and certain heart rhythm problems seem to be less likely among coffee drinkers.

Coffee has a very strong antioxidant capacity in addition to containing magnesium and chromium. However, medical authorities are quick to point out that there is no proof that these contributors actually affect the blood stream.
