En Plein Air art project launched

The Department of Natural Resources and the Indiana Plein Air Painters Association (IPAPA) are partnering on a project that will eventually culminate with a traveling museum exhibition titled “Historic Indiana En Plein Air.”

Through June 12, 2020, IPAPA artist members will paint scenes from nearly 2,000 Indiana entries in the National Register of Historic Places, and 60 paintings will be selected to commemorate the event and tour throughout the state.

In 2020, the state historic preservation office will be 50 years old. The eventual tour will celebrate the DNR’s 50 years of managing Indiana’s portion of the National Register of Historic Places. A perfect-bound four-color extended catalog will be produced to accompany the tour.

Once the selection of the paintings is complete, an opening exhibition will be held at the Indiana State Museum in September 2020. After that, the exhibit will travel to different museums throughout the state for a year.
