Enriching times on the agenda

(PNAN-VA) – First introduced last year at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, “Escape to Black Friday” will be staged on Friday, November 26 from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm. In conjunction, this venue also serves as the opening reception for “Workhouse Works: The 4th Annual Small Works Exhibition.” With more than 125 artists, this family-friendly day will again include original artwork, tea tastings, food, and live music throughout the day.

On Saturday, November 27 from 11:00 am-6:00 pm, visitors of all ages are invited to join Ceramic Resident Artists to create your own unique surface design and decoration on a bisque ornament.  The cost is $22 per ornament and includes firing. All proceeds will benefit the Lorton Arts Foundation and the Workhouse Ceramics Program.

Currently on view, “The Sumi-e Society Exhibition” features East Asian brush paintings and calligraphy. The show was juried by Lampo Leong, who is a professor in painting and drawing at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Dr. Leong also holds international acclaim for his own works. The Best in Show painting award went to Sung Sook Setton of Long Island, New York, for her painting shown at the top left, “Monet’s Pond 2.” For the calligraphy, right top shown, Best in Show award, “The Fragrance of Ink” by Jaiock Lee of Ormond Beach, Florida took top honor.
