TITLE: Cityscapes by Ben Aronson
BRIEF ABOUT: 18 works by Aronson (b.1958) includes a mix of architectural and pedestrian scenes that capture the energy of rapid urban life in a painterly manner. Benâs stylistic influences come from abstract artists in the Boston Expressionist School and Bay Area School as well as artists like Richard Diebenkorn, Willem de Kooning, Jack Levine, Franz Kline and including his father, David Aronson and through his depictions of âurban currents,â he contemplates the interplay of light and dark and the movement of a fleeting glance or a fixed personal memory.
âAronsonâs energetic painterly style creates a balance between description and abstraction while also highlighting the observance of the underlying geometry of forms that make up the bustling city surroundings,â said Katherine Hefner, curator of the exhibition. Hefner said his painting style provides the viewer with a âcharacterization of the emotional temperament of the city.â
Aronson received his master of fine arts degree in painting from Boston University in 1982 and has received numerous awards throughout his career and has exhibited his works of art nationally and internationally.
