Genres to blend ‘forward’

(PNAN-VA) – The Noland Foundation and SunTrust are two such concerns that know what paying forward does for the community, such as in the arts and educational arenas, especially when you they are presented under an entertainment umbrella. By dedicating their funds, giving their support and letting organizations, like the Peninsula Fine Arts Center in Newport News, put it all together with shining faces; history not only can be revisited, but also in the making.

“I play music from every decade…I like to blend styles of music…a folk tune with a reggae rhythm…” David Cavitt

The program, “Art After 5” which is a free and held monthly on the third Thursdays, is orchestrated by the merging of various genres in the creative arts, like visual, written, spoken and performing. In many other ways, the program does lend further voice to goers, whether it’s a who’s who or a hone or new learn in a light-hearted fun atmosphere.

At the Peninsula Fine Arts Center on January 20 from 5:30-7:00 pm, eclectic guitarist David Cavitt plays his blend of styles; poets Pete Freas, Frank Kozusko, Jill Winkowski, Anne Shalaski and Dave King will voice an original or favorite work; artist Stacy Whiting and participants join in a digital photo portrait-making activity; and Lee Gerry Wertheimer will demonstrate her exotic sumi-e watercolor painting technique.

Also two new shows, “Goya, Dali, Warhol: Masterpieces from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts” and “Modern American Prints: Selections from the David & Susan Goode Collection” are feasts for the eyes. Call 757.596,8175 or see www.pfac-va.org  for more information.
