Genres to unite in performance

(PNAN-VA) – On Thursday, February 17 from 5:30-7:30 pm, Art After 5 at the Peninsula Fine Arts Center in Newport News features Sol Libre, a modern guitar duo made up of brothers Jason and Jaime Freeman.  The band melds musical influences from their childhood in Southern Spain and their Virginia Beach home as well as their own genre of music, “Urban Gypsy,” which combines Flamenco guitars with catchy beats.

In addition, author Robert Kelly leads readings by poets Frank Kozusko, Christy Lumm, Jill Winkowsky and Toni Wynn who draw from their experiences ranging from teaching English at Hampton Roads Academy to commanding a nuclear submarine. Guests are also invited to share their own original works as part of Spoken Word Open Mic.

Debbie Poor demonstrates her metal quenching technique used to create hand wrought copper bracelets.  Her other jewelry incorporates raku fired clay medallions with fossil-like motifs.
