Long before artist Todd Williamson of Los Angeles stepped onto AAPJ’s Centerstage, little did it know from his undergraduate days at Belmont University in Nashville and up to now; he would not wavered in his creative style, but has kept on a consistent course bringing forth the musical sounds in his visual abstract paintings with robust brushstrokes.
Best said by Robert Burnside about Williamson, “The true artist is able to imbue the work with what can be termed the “auratic” quality; literally embedding the work with his aura or in a spiritual sense giving it energy. This is what gives art the sense of vibrating, shimmering and even ethereal movement.
Todd’s work possesses this sense of movement and vitality and due to his uplifting aura, his work uplifts those around it. This is the energetic power of not only artists, but the shaman who created magical, sacred objects. It’s profound and real although most don’t think of this spiritual power unfortunately in our overly commercialized and secular world.”
In February, artist Williamson was awarded the Pollock Prize for Creativity form the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. The recognition also receives $50,000 because his works “embodies high creative standards and has a substantial impact on individuals and society.” Williamson will use this financial award along with other donations to support his solo exhibition at the 58th Venice Biennale.

For his Venice exhibition titled, “Processional” will consist of eight large-scale canvases hung on the walls of the Chiesa di Santa Maria della Pietà and there will be a sound room in the church’s vestibule. These artworks place the spotlight on noted global leaders, such as Nelson Mandela, Barack Obama and Steve Jobs.
“The Venice Biennale provides a wonderful platform for Todd to show his work on an international stage,” said Ronald D.
