(AAPNW-OH) – Born in the ‘Big Apple’ in 1945, Bob Gruen is best noted as both John Lennon’s personal photographer as well as their friendship. One of his photographs of the Beatle, in a New York City shirt, has earned Gruen much historical acclaim, including much respect in the rock and roll industry worldwide. On Thursday, November 11 at 6:30 pm, Gruen will talk and present slide show about his career travels at the Akron Art Museum on Thursday, November 11, at 6:30 pm.
Over the course of 40 years, Gruen has captured the famous in the music scene such as, Elvis, Madonna, Eric Clapton, Jerry Garcia, Led Zeppelin, Sean Lennon, Green Day, Joe Strummer, The Who, Bob Dylan, Johnny Rotten, and Yoko Ono, who said about her husband New York years and Gruen’s works, “”Bob’s magical photos and brilliantly telling captions together present a kaleidoscope of John Lennon’s New York Period. It is beautiful, clear, and truthful. I know. I was there.”
His appearance at the museum coincides with the exhibit on view through January 23, 2011, “Who Shot Rock & Roll” whereas some of his own originals join over 100 other pioneering Rock & Roll photographers. Also, on November 16, Gruen will be inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame in Huntington.
