Hiegel imprints her historical choices

      (NWPR-OH) –  Going up on the walls at the Findlay Art League are the accepted artworks for the 2010 Juried Show. Michele Hiegel, who is the Executive Director of the Wassenberg Art Center in Van Wert, Ohio, judged the event that opens to the public with a reception from 5:00-9:00 pm on Friday, November 5. The show, which was open to all in the Northwest Ohio region, will remain on view through November 27.

     The Fred and Ruth Aldrich Best of Show Award was taken by Allen Hutton with his watercolor titled “Michael’s Pail.” Other honorees are: Judge’s Choice Award, Emily Measor, acrylic, “Self Portrait”; First Place, Mike Kozumplik, sterling silver, bronze and pearls, “My Voice Went Up and Sang in the Sky”; Second Place, Robert Minto, stoneware, “Coq au Teapot “; Third Place, Sue Stewart, acrylic, “Daniel 3.” 

     Merit Awards went to James Andrews, oil, “Blue Heron”; Douglas Fiely, acrylic, “Willows Café”; Don Groff, watercolor, “Oh, Lonesome Me”; Valerie Escobedo, oil, “Friday Afternoon #1” ; and Honorable Mentions: Shelly Roper, pencil, “Gossip”; Silvio Jimenez, acrylic, “Reflection from Yesterday”; and Jessica Davis, pen, “X-Ray #4.”

     In the Judge’s Choice, Hiegel said, “This acrylic portrait had a way of bringing me back to it every time I walked by.  The colors are well chosen, and I particularly appreciate the expression in the eyes.”
