WHEN: Sunday, May 20, 2012 from 1:30-5:30 pm.

TITLE: Utilitarian Vessels

BRIEF ABOUT:   As part of a line-up of spring clay classes, David Swenson will conduct this workshop which is open for enrollment.  In the past, Swenson has taught classes BTAC as well as served as the Clay Studio Manager. He received his BFA in studio ceramics from New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University.

He says about his art, “I produce parts and construct assemblages by incorporating various processes to achieve sculptural forms that allude to function.  Movement and gesture through form allow the work to remain flexible, while keeping play at the heart of my making.  Careful engineering entertains notions of elevation and suspension to train a material that would otherwise be less apt to maintain itself.  Evidence of the making attests to the importance of process as well as using that detail as ornament.”

Currently, Swenson is also teaching for the center’s Northern Clay Center’s ClayToGo program in Minneapolis Minnesota (www.northernclaycenter.org).

Also later on the agenda, Pottery 101, a Monday evening class for beginners with Katie Sherman, and Advanced Clay Studio: Exploring Your Creative Style, a special 10-week course for experienced ceramicists led by Troy Williams.
