Maurice Papier: A Retrospective

BRIEF ABOUT: In September 1978, the very first exhibit at Artlink’s original location on Broadway was a solo show by Papier. Over 60 of his mixed media, watercolor and acrylic paintings will be on display in the main galleries.

Born and raised in Fort Wayne, Papier has managed over the span of 40 years, to juggle his teaching and artistic careers to touch the lives of over three generations of artists, students and collectors. He has described his work as “mostly autobiographical.”

Papier received his B.S. in Art Education from Ball State University in 1963; his M.S. in Education with Art Major from Saint Francis College, Fort Wayne, in 1967; and his M.A. in Fine Art from Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio, in 1976. Papier taught art in the Fort Wayne Community Schools from 1963 to 1972, was Art Department Chair at the University of Saint Francis from 1972 through 2000, and was an Art Professor there from 1972 through 2004. www.facebook.com/MauricePapierArtist

Also on exhibit will be artwork by 30 of Papier’s former students, which will be on view in the Betty Fishman Gallery. Some of these artists will include are: Justin Johnson, Bob Kiel, Betty Fishman, Alan Nauts, Audrey Riley, Amy Schreiber, Mary Klopfer, Greg Becker, Karen Thompson, Jeff Crane and Deborah Kern.
