Contemporary Mythology
BRIEF ABOUT: Works by Hoosier artist Laura Levine are a mixture of traditional figurative and classical influences, as well as her personal contemporary mythology. Her work begins with a hand-sculpted mythological figure from ancient stories or her own creation. She then adds elements to convey a concept or emotion, such as a man’s disconnect with nature and the individual’s search for meaning. Levine said, “The end result is a sculpture with a deeper and more contemporary meaning for those who choose to look for it.”Exposure to the Renaissance work in Florence, Italy has had a significant impact on her work.
