(NWPR-OH) – Gloriana, age 22 and beautiful is the Duchess of a tiny country in the Alps founded centuries ago by a roving band of English bowmen. Her domain is on the verge of bankruptcy and her solution is to declare war on the United States. Yes, there is a method to her madness because in her history research and studies, she found the surest way to wealth today is to lose a war with the United 
States, for that country’s odd reaction is to pour aid, relief and rehabilitation on the vanquished.
When her “declaration” is considered a prank, the Duchess decides to escalate and Tully Bascomb, presently in charge of the bowmen, is to launch an attack so they can surrender and reap the rewards. Serious-minded Tully upsets all calculations when he and his bowmen do the last thing expected; they win! This rare comedy, “The Mouse that Roared” uses the magic of the theatre to help all involved enjoy the delight of the impossible.
Over 40 local youth in grades 6 through 12 are involved in the cast and technical crew, from nine area schools, goes on stage on Friday, October 22 at 7:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church, located at 2330 South Main Street in Findlay, Ohio. Other performance dates are Saturday, October 23, 7:00 pm and Sunday, October 24 with curtain time at 2:30 pm. “The Mouse That Roared” is a full-length comedy that is produced through special arrangement with the Dramatic Publishing Company of Woodstock, Illinois and was adapted by Christopher Sergel from the book by Leonard Wibberley, who was born in Ireland in 1915 and has authored over 120 other books of many genres, including historical and science fiction, humor, non-fiction and books for children.
Although he traveled the world as a journalist, he enjoyed scuba diving, ocean sailing, mountain climbing and surfing, and he loved music and studied the violin. He spent the last decades of his life in Hermosa Beach, California on his life writing and raising his six children. Wibberley was something of a local celebrity, eating at the Hilltop Cafe on Pier Avenue and haunting downtown shops. While most of his books are out of print, “The Mouse That Roared” is still widely read, and even today, the Hermosa Beach Library honors the writer with a special collection of his books. He passed in 1983.
The local Findlay production is directed by Jim Toth with Assistant Britney McIntosh; Merv Schrock, Technical Director with Assistant Brandon Lundeen; Joan Bauer, Costume Designer, and Peggy Grandbois is the Producer.
