Mag to show ‘faces of time’

(PNAN-NY) – Best known as an American music journalist and editor, Timothy White (1952-2002) said, “No publication is a staple of life. It’s not bread and water. You have to make it noteworthy in people’s minds and even in their hands as they’re holding it.”

January 2011

As visual proof of White’s words, the Hudson Valley has been especially served by its own ‘art giant’ since 1993 with a mission: “… to disseminate material that nourishes and support the creative life of our region and in the world, and to demonstrate a paradigm of that creativity in action.” On Saturday, February 5 from 5:00-8:00 pm, the Chronogram will unveil its historical travels in its exhibition, “The Covers Show: 1993-2011” at the Arts Society of Kingston.

On display with not only be the Chronogram’s debut cover with an illustration by Jane Sander, but also more than 60, including the portrait of Pete Seeger on the February 2011 edition by Woodstock photographer Fionn Reilly. Editorial Director Brian Mahoney said, “The cover of Chronogram is proof of the artistic vitality of the Hudson Valley. Showcasing the work of a diverse variety of artists each month, from established artists to emerging talents, is a privilege we take very seriously…”

Some of the artists who have graced the cover of the Chronogram were: Peter Max, Martin Puryear, Dion Ogust, Steven Spacarelli, Alex Grey, Emil Alzamora, Richard Butler, Denise Orzo, Kathy Ruttenberg, Eric Bean, Laura Levine, Stuart Bigley, Devorah Sperber, Steven Kenny, Keith Haring, Jeffrey Milstein, Edie Nadelhaft, Joe Concra, Zak Pullen, Kevin Paulsen, as well as more than 150 other creative notables.
