(PNAN-FL) – “Art education and instruction is an essential component of the ArtCenter/South Florida’s mission to make contemporary art accessible for everyone,” said Jeremy Chestler, ACSF Executive Director. “ArtStudies provides students – from novices to experienced artists looking to expand their knowledge of different media – with the opportunity to learn from professional artists.”
On Monday, October 25, ArtCenter/South Florida begins its fall session of ArtStudies, an educational program which provides an artistic platform that develops skills, expresses ideas and contributes to the student’s and center’s creative energy. A range of classes are available from drawing, painting and sculpture to photography, jewelry, printmaking and glass. The sessions run for six weeks and are mainly held in the ArtCenter’s historic buildings which houses over 40 artist studios at 800 and 924 Lincoln Road in Miami Beach.

Anthony Ardavin teaches creative painting, which lends itself to his own work that deals with nostalgia and the world of imagination. His classes include constructive discussions and completing at least one painting during each class meeting. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology/Art from Florida Atlantic University, and has worked as an Art Consultant for IBM as well as owned his own gallery in Atlanta.
Gustavo Román is the instructor for figure drawing which students will learn the technical knowledge necessary to draw the human figure convincingly in various poses. His objective is for the students to gain a better understanding of the formal principles of drawing the figure from observation. After graduating from the University of Puerto Rico with a Bachelor of Humanities in Fine Arts, he has continued his education with Florida International University to acquire a Master of Fine Arts. His work deals with the human psyche and its correlation with physical existence, has been shown in Chicago, Kansas City and New York.
Art jewelry is taught by veteran jeweler, Ruth Avra. She incorporates metal and painting to create striking yet minimal designs which have been shown all over the world. Her class teaches jewelry techniques including chain-making, metal fabrication, piercing, soldering, forming, stone setting, finishing and 
surface patinas. In her 20 years of creative jewelry, she has learned traditional jewelry-making under mentor and celebrated artist, Eleanor Moty, studied in Italy at the famed Art Studio Fuji, worked with several different designers in New York and launched her own company in South Florida.
Lazaro Amaral teaches the fundamentals of the screen printing and photo emulsion process; building a home-based lab and making postcards, posters, t-shirts and more. He is a 1988 Honors graduate of Parson’s School of Design and has also led projects for MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon, Coca Cola, Sony and Miami Herald.
