New ‘historical shaker’ at the helm

suzanne brooksSuzanne Brooks is the new Executive Director for the Spartanburg County Historical Association. Brooks joins SCHA with experience in historic preservation, advocacy, education and outreach. She looks to engage the community through programs, collaborations, and campaigns to share Spartanburg’s cultural history and make the SCHA an approachable resource.

Brooks comes to Spartanburg from Columbia, South Carolina where she worked as Rental Coordinator with Historic Columbia, managing the public and internal use of five historic properties. She has also worked in Washington, DC in legislation and policy, specializing in federal policy, and is very passionate about grassroots advocacy at the local and state levels. She received her master’s degree from Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia with a focus on Historic Interiors. Also, she holds post baccalaureate certification in Historic Preservation from UNC-Greensboro.
