Potter works on Center’s agenda

TROY, OH (NWPR) – An exhibit, “Order and Fire” of pottery by Philip Matthews opens Saturday January 11, 2025 at the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center with an artist reception on January 12 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.

     Matthews has always been interested in the intersection of art and functionality, specifically everyday ceramic objects as a canvas for visual exploration, including bold graphics and clean lines. Spontaneous color and dramatic contrast.

The exhibition was inspired by the juxtaposition of these visual languages on a functional surface. A combination of Raku and traditional techniques, as well as vinyl resists and open flame were used to produce visually rich and tactile surfaces that value pleasing forms and utilitarian functionality.
