Works of artist David Hannon of Muncie, Indiana will be exhibited in “Points of View” from Tuesday, June 19 through July 17, 2015 at the Portland Center of Arts Place located in Portland, Indiana.
Hannon is a narrative artist whose work primarily takes the form of representational paintings that balance fact with fiction as he examines the human condition through an autobiographical point of view.
His current work focuses on personality archetypes where his two dominant archetypes of optimism and pessimism wage an ideological and philosophical battle of wits. David says “I tell stories. The stories I paint are autobiographical in nature. They are how I perceive and have come to understand the world in all of its many different facets.”
David’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including solo exhibitions at the Tatistcheff Gallery in New York City, Tennessee Tech University and Earlham College. His work has been featured in group exhibitions that include, “Two Dark Lines” at the Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center in Covington, Kentucky and most recently as part of “The Echo of the Object” traveling exhibition featured at Ball State University, the Downtown Gallery in Knoxville of the University of Tennessee and the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw, Poland.
His work has also been shown in many national and regional juried exhibitions at institutions, including the Butler Institute of American Art, Xavier University, Eastern Michigan University, Manifest Creative Research Gallery and Drawing Center, the Illinois Institute of Art Chicago’s Gallery 180, and the Strohl Art Center in Chautauqua, New York.
Aside from an active studio practice, he is currently an Associate Professor of Painting in the School of Art at Ball State University teaching all levels of painting. He is also co-director of an Italian field study program.
