Quartet to jazz up the airways

TROY, OH (NWPR) – At the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center, the University of Dayton Jazz Quartet will perform on Tuesday, January 28 at 7:30 pm for Hayner’s Drawing Room Chamber Concert.

The quartet includes Jim Leslie on drums, Chris Berg on upright bass, Phil Burkhead on piano and Nick Fryer on guitar. All are active professional musicians and educators, promoting and keeping jazz alive in our Miami Valley.

The Drawing Room Chamber Concert series is presented free to the public that takes place on the last Tuesday of most months in the school year. The 2025 season the series is hosted by Eric Knorr who is an accomplished soloist, a collaborative musician and an educator. Currently, he is a Senior Lecturer in Trumpet in the Department of Music at the University of Dayton.

Jim Leslie performs with the legendary Blue Wisp Big Band and is a member of the Cincinnati Contemporary Jazz Orchestra. Chris Berg has a 40-year career performing live, in films, on radio and for television. Phillip Burkhead has performed with The Blue Wisp Big Band, The Dayton Jazz Orchestra, The Louisville Stage Band, Little Anthony and the Imperials and The Shirelles. Nick Fryer is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and educator. He performs regularly in the Cincinnati area and has performed throughout the United States, Canada and South America.
