An exhibition in the Inez Greenberg Gallery at the Bloomington Theatre and Art Center in Bloomington, Minnesota will feature the work of Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist Steve Sack.
Sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota and Kraus-Anderson Companies, “Cartoonival” opens Friday, June 5 with a reception from 6:00-8:00 pm and remains on view through July 10, 2015, which will showcase a cornucopia of his rarely seen non-political, lighthearted, oddball characters—in sculptural form. Mermaids with an attitude, tattooed muscle men, mischievous cats, and good-natured aliens will come off the page and off the wall in non-traditional mediums including paper mache, wire, and even seed art!
Sack is known for his sharp political humor on the pages of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, is native of St. Paul and has been the editorial cartoonist for the Minneapolis Star Tribune for 34 years as well as is the 2013 Pulitzer Prize winner for editorial cartooning.
His political cartoons have appeared in numerous books and exhibitions and national honors include a Sigma Delta Chi Award , National Headliner Award , Scripps-National Journalism Award and the Berryman Award from the National Press Foundation.
Steve began sculpting in 2010 and has exhibited his work at the Minnesota State Fair and Bloomington Theatre and Art Center’s 39th Annual Members’ Juried Art Exhibition, where he received an honorable mention.
There will be also an Artist Talk on Tuesday, June 23 at 7:00 pm.
