TITLE: The Life and Times of Judge Matthew Perry: Captured in Photographs by Cecil J. Williams

BRIEF ABOUT: Orangeburg, South Carolina Cecil Williams’ photographs will be on exhibit which focuses on the Honorable Matthew Perry (August 4, 1921-July 29, 2011) who in 1976 was the first African-American lawyer appointed by President Gerald Ford to the to the United States Military Court of Appeals in Washington, D.C. On July 5, 1979, President Jimmy Carter nominated him to a new seat on the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina, thusly becoming South Carolina’s first African American federal judge.
