Season’s final concert is colorful

The Toledo Symphony Orchestra will be performing “A Ruby Celebration” at Henry St. Clair Memorial Hall in Greenville, Ohio on Saturday, May 11, 2019, presented by the Darke County Center for the Arts. Beginning at 8:00 pm, the show will feature soloist Joan Ellison with songs by Judy Garland as well as music from the Wizard of Oz.

The celebration will be heightened by the presentation of a ruby necklace donated by Wieland’s Jewelry to a season ticket holder drawn during the concert. The jewelry was crafted by Dean Bankson in honor of DCCA’s anniversary season. Adding to the festivities, local Pastry chef Holly Crain will create sugar cookies shaped into ruby red slippers, which will accompany the fresh coffee donated by the Coffee Pot to be served during intermission.

“Toledo Symphony Orchestra crafted this show especially for the finale of our 40th anniversary season,” said Keith Rawlins, DCCA Artistic Director. “Joan Ellison has been a Judy Garland fan ever since she was a little girl, and she has the vocal chops to render appropriate homage to her idol. Her big clear voice sounds tender and sincere and she is totally capable of the stunning vocal athleticism for which Garland was renowned.”

Tickets are $35 (half price for students) and can be reserved by calling DCCA at 937.547.0908 or email: dcca@darkecountyarts.org; or online at www.darkecountyarts.org.
