The exposition, Footsteps is a collection of artifacts gifted to the Foundation in 2016 from Jerry Gore, a well-known historian, who for 20 years served as a docent on Footsteps to Freedom Underground Railroad Study Tours. Since then, the foundation and Hardy Brown have added not only more artifacts, but also the stories behind them.

“The Gore Collection has a focus on building historical empathy by immersing you in a world where people were considered objects; a prejudice that was entirely based on the color of one’s skin.”

Hardy Brown leads conversations on empathy and history with hundreds of teachers and thousands of students where learners gain knowledge and power of Freedom Movements. “When students and other visitors see these artifacts, it’s not just show-and-tell. It’s a conversation.”
