(NWPR-IN) – Coming to the Hall-Mosier Theatre in the Arts Place Portland Center on Saturday, November 13 at 7:30 pm, Rani Arbo and daisy mayhem will bring as the Boston Globe said, “…a grand knack for pumping new blood into old music,” in their folk melodies of jazz, blues, bluegrass and pop.
Who are they? Four musicians with musical pasts embedded with a deep cultural richness. They bring it all into the present with good humor, impeccable musicianship, powerful songwriting, and a clear display of bondsman-ship of playing together.
With their instruments from a fiddle, a guitar, and a standup bass; add a cardboard box with a suitcase bass drum and tin can cymbals, played by an ex-rock and zydeco drummer. Over that fine groove, hang Rani Arbo‘s expressive alto, seamless four-part harmonies, and a splash of banjo and ukulele, and you have it, but there is also Carla Gover, who is authentic as day brings light and night dark, was born and raised in Eastern Kentucky, exposed to all the ingredients that go into making a true Appalachian musician of the first order. Her rich and full voice has become one of the most recognizable on the regional music scene, however her songwriting talents has also earned her the distinction as a winner, including in the Merlefest Chris Austin Songwriting Contest and the Kerrville New Folk Songwriting Contest.

Prior to performance in the Hall-Mosier, the group makes stops in the AAPJ’s national coverage parts at WAMC Linda Norris Auditorium in Albany, New York on November 5 at 8:00 pm; Academy of Music, Northampton, Massachusetts, (Living on the River – a concert of Riversongs) November 7, 2:00 pm; Prius Hall, Ball State University Muncie, Indiana, November 11 at 7:30 pm; and the Columbus Performing Arts Center in Columbus, Ohio on November 12 at 8:00 pm.
