A certified public accountant in the state of Tennessee, Marye Walker Lewis began her career as an auditor at Arthur Andersen. After an extensive nationwide search by the Nashville Symphony, Lewis is coming from nearly two decades in the health care field, most recently as the Vice President and Controller of Health to You, LLC, a subsidiary of Hospital Corporation of American, where she led the Finance and Accounting functions since 2011.
“Managing the complex intricacies of the Nashville Symphony’s finances requires tremendous expertise and experience, and Marye’s proven track record throughout her career, coupled with her love of the Symphony, made it overwhelmingly clear that she is the perfect fit for this critical position,” said Alan D. Valentine, Nashville Symphony President and CEO. “She is committed to helping lead our organization into a very bright and successful future, and she will be an outstanding addition to the Symphony’s executive team.”
Lewis has worked with both for-profit and nonprofit organizations and has extensive experience in all aspects of accounting, including budgeting, management, financial forecasting, financial operations, treasury management and implementing and improving internal controls. She holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration/Accounting Major from Middle Tennessee State University, and is a member of both the Tennessee Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs.
Marye and her husband Bill have been avid supporters of the Nashville Symphony over the years, attending many concerts at Schermerhorn Symphony Center, and she has also served in a volunteer capacity with St. Cecilia Academy, Dress for Success and Cathedral of the Incarnation, advising on various budgetary and financial-related matters.
“The Nashville Symphony has always been an important part of my life, and I am honored to become a part of an organization that fully lives and breathes its mission and is a vital part of the cultural landscape of Music City,” said Lewis. “The Symphony’s talented orchestra and administration exhibit the dedication, creativity and drive to flourish as the center of musical excellence in the future, and we will all continue to hold ourselves to the highest standard of transparency to our donors, supporters and patrons.”
Lewis begins her new post on Thursday, August 20, 2015.
