Symphony to party with educational ‘antiques’

(NWPR-OH) – A whole lot of sounds will hit the airways in the Crouse Performance Hall in the Veteran’s Memorial Civic and Convention Center on Saturday, November 6 at 7:30 pm when the Lima Symphony Orchestra and the Ohio State University at Lima unite with a program, celebrating the 50th Anniversary of OSU in the Lima community.

The Symphony joins 36 members of the Ohio State University Marching Band, the Ohio State Lima Chamber Singers and the Symphony Chorus to present the best Buckeye music ever written, including the “Drum Cadence”, “Buckeye Battle Cry”, “Hang on Sloopy”, “Carmen Ohio” and “Beautiful Ohio.”  Also when the OSU Marching Band is performing their traditional parts, Maestro Crafton Beck has created special arrangements for the string and woodwind sections, to allow the orchestra to perform with the brass-based Marching Band.

After intermission, the orchestra will return to its roots and perform Hector Berlioz’s complex “Symphonie Fantastique.”  A somewhat autobiographical work, it reveals the tortured dreams of a sensitive artist in lovesick despair as he is haunted by visions of an unattainable woman.  Berlioz’s manipulation of familiar sounds created an inexhaustible novelty in both structure and sound that has yet to be matched today.

A pre-concert Tailgate Party begins at 5:30 pm with the traditional food and refreshments available for purchase. Come dressed in your best Buckeye attire in front of the Civic Center, while the OSU Marching Band does their thang!
