(AAPNW) – The University of Chicago no longer needs to have their visions remain on pins and needles. Governor Pat Quinn told them to begin planning their campus upgrades with an initial disbursement of $2.5 million to be earmarked for this stage out of the total $20.8 million the project will receive through Illinois Jobs Now! capital construction program.
“It is important that when students from all over the world choose to attend the University of Illinois at Chicago, they are learning in an environment that matches the superior educations the university offers,” said Governor Quinn. “This project will allow one of Illinois’ historic universities to upgrade its aging infrastructure, furthering its commitment to academic excellence.” Once the project is underway next year, it is anticipated 140 construction jobs will be created.
Besides the planning phrase, the initial ‘green kick’ enables UIC to begin a wide-range of campus improvements from replacing windows, elevators, lighting, fire alarm systems, including as part of the project, the College of Dentistry will receive
an emergency generator, new fire alarm and sprinkler systems. In addition, buildings at the College of Medicine will get also new windows and the abatement of asbestos-containing materials.
