RALEIGH, NC (PNAN) – Opening Saturday, December 18, 2021 at the North Carolina Museum of Art, “PARTICIPATE: Activate the Senses” will be an exhibition where viewers can interact with art using their own sense of sight, sound, touch and smell with select works of art.
“PARTICIPATE brings these works of art to life in a new way,” said Felicia Ingram, Manager of Interpretation, Accessibility, and Diversity. “The exhibition encourages visitors to engage with and experience art in ways they may never have before,” said Valerie Hillings, Museum director.
Continuing through July 3, 2022, viewers can experience the whistle of an ancient vessel, the feeling of the beadwork on a ceremonial belt, and the scent of the food featured in a still-life painting from five Museum collections, including Ancient American, African, American, Contemporary and European.
In addition, the exhibition offers a more accessible experience such as the Tactile stations, including a digital-touch painting, a touchable replica of a painting featuring all the brushstrokes, texture and touch-activated audio descriptions.
