Who ‘wooden’ like this show?

“Out of the Woodwork”, our current exhibit, features things that are hand-made from wood.  Wood is an incredibly versatile medium, but it’s also so common that we often don’t realize how much can be done with it – and how much cultures around the world depend on it.  This show gives us a look at the incredible variety of tings that can be done with “good old wood.”  There are walking sticks by local carvers and by African artists; a five-piece band complete with handkerchief-waving diva; a haunted house, flying giraffe, and slithering gator; several varieties of wooden chests and storage units; antique and modern woodcarvings; furniture, and much, much more.

This exhibit runs through August 12, Tuesday through Sunday, 1-5 p.m. Admission is free.  Drop in and see this exciting show!  And while you’re here, you might want to sign up yourself or your kids for one or more of our upcoming classes.

Ladies can release their “wild woman” side at the WildWoman! Art Pins class on July 19 from 6-9 p.m.  Create a wearable work of art with artist Pam Knoch, who will show you how to make one-of-a-kind jewelry from ordinary and not-so-ordinary “stuff.”  All materials included – adults — $30 for members, $35 for non-members.  Preregistration required so we can have enough stuff for everyone!

You can make a unique wall hanging or pillow cover using cold-dye techniques in the Batik classes August 2, 4, 9, 11, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.  Barb Pemberton will show you how to do it in the style you like best.  Materials included.  Adults.  $45 members, $55 nonmembers.

     We aren’t leaving the young folks out – Batik-4-Kids! is August 15, 16 and 17 from 10 a.m. to noon.  Ages 10-13, $45 members, $55 nonmembers.

And for ages 7-9 we have “Ceramic Pirate” class!  August 10, 11, 17 and 18 from 2-4 p.m.  Popular instructor Anna Fisher will help the participants take a watery journey over the seven seas with imagination and clay – they can create sea serpents, treasure chests and more!  Materials are included in this ready-sculpt-fire class!  $35 for members, $45 for nonmembers.

Ages 10–14 can create a beautiful decorated initial, suitable for framing, in a line art drawing class on July 16 from 10 a.m. to noon.  Artist Scott Kraemer has been creating his intricate morph-work since 1979 and his work now hangs in exhibits! The students will learn to illustrate everything from book covers to what-have-you.
