Winter Concert is a Picasso for the ears

NWPR-OH – Not only will the airways in the Kettering Seventh-day Adventist Church be filled with music by Corelli and Mozart, masters of the Baroque and Classical periods, as well as twentieth century works of the British composer, David Stone and African American composer William Grant Still, but also hearts in the audience will experience the passions of the Dayton Philharmonic Youth Strings, as they perform their Winter Concert on Sunday, November 21 at 3:00 pm. Admission is free for this 6-12 grade performance group.

As Dr. Betsey Hofeldt conducts, she will wave her wand to feature student soloists in Corelli’s Concerto Grosso, a work of remarkable unison between a solo group of violins and cello and the full orchestra.  Only 16 years old when he wrote “Divertimento in B Flat,” this Mozart work is filled with elegant melodies and robust harmonies, while Stone’s more contemporary “Miniature Quartet” and Still’s rhythmic “Panamanian Dance,” will complete a contrasting musical journey from Salzburg and Italy to the Caribbean.

For more information, including the 9-12 grade performance on December 5, call the DPO Education Department 937.224-3521 x136.
