BLOOMINGTON, IN (AAPNW) – Opening at the Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Museum of Art at Indiana University on Friday, February 14, 2025, “Blanche Hoschedé-Monet in the Light” serves as the first monographic exhibition of her work in the United States.
Blanche Hoschedé-Monet was part of a successful network of artists in Giverny, Rouen and Paris during the first half of the twentieth century, although she is most often recognized for her relation to Claude Monet, her stepfather and one of France’s most famous painters.
The exhibit explores her sophisticated approach to color, composition and technique which brings together more than forty of her best paintings that attest to her unique vision and ambitions as an artist, thusly, this show reinforces the impact of an under-recognized woman artist.

Hoschedé-Monet grew up during the Impressionist movement and was surrounded by the modern masterpieces in the collection of her father, Ernest Hoschedé, a patron of renowned artists such as Édouard Manet, Monet, and Auguste Renoir. When her mother, Alice Hoschedé, married Claude Monet, Blanche took up painting in earnest and continued to refine her distinct style throughout her life, favoring carefully framed landscapes painted en plein air.

Remaining on view through June 15, 2025, the exhibition and accompanying catalogue constitute a definitive account of Hoschedé-Monet’s life and art.
